ARSENAL have agreed a deal for Basel's Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Elneny ahead of a
January move to the Emirates.
All that remains to be done is for the club and player to agree personal terms and Elneny to complete a medical, according to the Mirror.
The deal is worth £5m and the 23-year-old will bolster Arsene Wenger's midfield options after suffering injuries to the likes of Santi Cazorla and Francis Coquelin.
Elneny has impressed in helping Basel to the top of the Swiss League and is likely to be the first deal Arsenal do in January.
The Egyptian is not a classic holding midfielder and would
provide versatility in the Gunners midfield as they look to win the
Premier League for the first time since 2004.
With Mathieu Flamini, Mikel Arteta and Tomas Rosicky out of contract at the end of the summer and expected to leave, Elneny would also be a long-term signing.
The Mirror also claims the Gunners will move for Victor
Wanyama - but not until the end of the season as they look to further
strengthen their squad.
Elneny would be Wenger's first outfield signing of the season as Petr Cech was the only player added to the squad in the summer.
