Bayern Munich fear Pep Guardiola could join Manchester City at the
end of the season despite them set to
offer him £18m a year to stay in Germany.
The German giants are said to be desperate to keep hold of the Spaniard, who will be offered an extension to his stay at the Allianz Arena until 2018, the Mirror report.
Bayern are hoping their move will ward off rivals, with City said to be the club they fear they most, though Chelsea are also said to be firmly in the running if they decide to sack Jose Mourinho.
Guardiola’s three-year contract at Bayern expires at the end of the current campaign and he has not agreed a new deal leading to speculation he will move to a the Premier League.
He was recently reported as having given City his word that he will join them in the summer after telling the Etihad director of football Txiki Begiristain he is ready to take on the role.
Guardiola is thought to be open to a new challenge, while he has always stated his desire to move to England.
His intentions remain a mystery, though, even to those close to him. Bayern’s contract offer will help to flush out his intentions.
