Louis van Gaal has moved to play down the seriousness of Daley Blind’s fitness problems after the Dutch defender was substituted in the second half of Manchester United’s 1-0 win over Everton on Sunday afternoon.
The defender was withdrawn in the 82nd minute at Old Trafford and replaced by Antonio Valencia and appeared to be in some discomfort as he walked off the pitch. However, Van Gaal insisted that Blind has purely been suffering from fatigue and that he expects him to be back in good shape after taking two days off this week.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the 1-0 win at Old Trafford, Van Gaal said: “Daley Blind has played every match this season more or less, and he is at the end of his strengths.
“So I shall give him two days off this week and then he will be all right again.”
Anthony Martial scored the only goal of the game in the 54th minute against the Toffees to hand Van Gaal’s men a crucial victory in the race for Champions League qualification.
The result left the Red Devils in fifth place and one point adrift of the top four.
