Suarez admits it was
something special – Ronaldo is regarded as one of the finest strikers of
all time – but
insists trying to beat the records Messi has set is a
different challenge all together.“It is a privilege and an honour to outscore Ronaldo because of what that means and what a great player he was,” Suarez told Barcelona’s official website.
“I enjoy spending every day in the best team in the world, and it is an honour to have surpassed one of the footballing greats. But it is of course impossible to beat Messi’s records.”
Barcelona’s emphatic victory
this week maintained their slender lead at the top of La Liga, ahead of
the clash against Sporting Gijon on Saturday.
Luis Enrique’s side suffered three consecutive La Liga
defeats prior to the win against Deportivo, which was the first time
that had happened since 2003 for the Catalan giants.
