Man United boss Louis van Gaal should go before he's sacked - Paul Parker

Parker, who won four major trophies at Old Trafford including two Premier League titles in the 1990s, said
that Van Gaal should step aside gracefully instead of being forced out.

"Maybe he can be humble and say to himself, 'it's not working', and leave at the end of the season," Parker told ESPN FC.
"Hopefully he can try to change things slightly before then and change himself as a person."
Parker joined Manchester United in 1991 when Sir Alex Ferguson was under intense pressure as the club chased their first English title in more than 20 years. But ex-England fullback Parker says that Sir Alex was willing to adapt while Van Gaal is proving to be too stubborn.
"Sir Alex Ferguson changed because he suddenly realised that the game was changing. He still implemented his own stuff but he knew that the new bit was coming in so he adapted.
"Van Gaal seems like he doesn't want to adapt to the modern game. He has got to throw away his book that he carries on his lap all the time and let United out of their shackles."

Reports from within the club that support for Van Gaal could be fading will ultimately spell the end for the Dutchman, Parker predicted.
"Everybody from all levels of media are hitting him and it's bubbling, a bit like Mourinho," he said.
"But given how the game has changed, the players have got a massive say in it. If they're not happy downstairs, they've got to make changes. And there's only one change they can make and that's got to be at the helm.
"Yes, Sir Alex was under pressure too [in 1991] but that pressure was coming from outside, not from within. He was very popular within and Bobby Charlton was his biggest fan."
As for resolving United's scoring problems -- just nine goals in their last 11 matches in all competitions -- Parker says that Netherlands' international Memphis Depay could be the answer, but only if Van Gaal can give him the freedom and confidence to express himself.
"Yes, Memphis has got an arrogance and he's a bit flamboyant," Parker said.
"The problem is that Van Gaal has got to him and said 'you can't do that'. He's taken it all away from him. He's telling him how he can and can't dress.
"But if it makes him a better player and he's comfortable doing it, it's okay. Van Gaal has to start working with individuals rather than collectively because everybody's different in today's world."
Parker, who now works as a Singapore-based coach, captained Manchester United legends' team in exhibition games against the Liverpool legends in Singapore and Thailand last month.
