Manchester United are likely to face formal disciplinary proceedings
from the Premier League after their
3-0 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur yesterday.
United’s team bus was late arriving at White Hart Lane after getting stuck in traffic. As a consequence, the kick-off had to be delayed by 30 minutes from 4pm to 4.30pm.
Under Premier League rules, any team that delays kick-off by 15 minutes or less will be handed a fine of £5,000. But for delays of more than 15 minutes, formal disciplinary action will be opened and United now face a disciplinary hearing under section W of the Premier League handbook.
Ahead of the match, United manager Louis van Gaal had bemoaned the traffic problems that delayed his team’s arrival at the stadium and indicated that he felt the game should have been delayed for more than the 30 minutes agreed by the match officials.
