Arsenal agree groundshare deal with Chelsea and Tottenham for 2017/18 season

Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have signed a historic deal that will see all three clubs
share the Emirates Stadium for the 2017/18 season while Stamford Bridge and White Hart Lane are redeveloped.
This summer will mark 10 years since the Gunners made their own move to their current venue in Holloway, North London after 93 years at Highbury and the opportunity to host two of the club’s fiercest rivals has been regarded as another potential boost to Arsenal’s plans for long-term revenue growth.
“The Emirates Stadium is already one of the great venues of European football,” said Arsenal board member, Sir Alf Polo. “The increases in our match day revenue from hosting Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur for a single season will only enhance Arsenal football club’s standing in the game as London’s leading football team and a global brand in the years to come.

“Though we understand the concerns of fans, the commercial potential of this opportunity was too good to overlook and we are confident that increased revenues will lead to greater success on the football pitch.
“The successes of Chelsea and Tottenham at the Emirates will be Arsenal’s successes.”
Previously, Wembley Stadium and Stadium mk in Milton Keynes were cited as potential venues to host the Blues and Spurs during their years away from home. However, in the past few months talks have broken down over transport links and issues of credibility with Premier League clubs playing at a national stadium or a Championship ground.
Conscious of offending the sensibilities of fans, Sir Alf confirmed that the Emirates Stadium will be refitted so as to respect its new tenants with blue and white flags, lights and banners to change the look of the stadium on a match day depending on which club will be playing at home.
Inspired by the colour-changing exterior of the Allianz Arena, Arsenal plan to allow their rivals to add their own paraphernalia in place of the stadium’s usual permanent hoardings such as the trophy banner most recently updated with their FA Cup wins in 2014 and 2015.

Chelsea would be offered the opportunity to include their own panels based on current flags at Stamford Bridge, such as the “J.T. Captain Leader Legend” design, while Tottenham could replace the clock at the Clock End with their golden cockerel that features at the top of the West Stand.
Arsenal are understood to have rejected the idea of both clubs creating their own trophy banners over concerns that their record in the Premier League may overshadow the host club’s achievements in the competition of late.
Given their record as the away team at the Emirates, Chelsea are likely to be the most comfortable side when playing at home in Holloway with a win percentage of 42% from 12 games in all competitions. While Spurs have won only 8% of their matches at the Emirates against Arsenal.
Arsene Wenger is believed to welcome the move as another important step in improving the club’s finances, although fans have been told not to expect to see an increase in business in the transfer market because of the deal.
