Confirmed Man Utd Squad: Spanish Midfielder & Key Defender Left Out

Ander Herrera and Daley Blind have both been left out of Manchester United’s squad to face
Liverpool in the Europa League on Thursday evening but Antonio Valencia and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson both return.
The duo’s absence is a curious choice from Louis van Gaal as neither men are carrying an injury. Herrera was present at Van Gaal’s press conference yesterday making his dismissal an interesting talking point.
Manchester United squad in full: De Gea; Romero, Valencia, Darmian, Varela, Smalling, Williams, Borthwick-Jackson, Rojo; Schneiderlin, Schweinsteiger, Fellaini, Carrick, Lingard, Mata, Memphis; Martial, Rashford.

United lost the first leg at Anfield 2-0 thanks to goals from Daniel Sturridge and Roberto Firmino but the return of Valencia and Borthwick-Jackson will be a major boost for Van Gaal in the full back areas.
Valencia returned to action in an under-21 game last week after being sidelined since October. Borthwick-Jackson hasn’t played for three weeks but the talented teenage left-back was in the United squad that arrived at the Lowry Hotel on Thursday morning according to the Manchester Evening News.

Another interesting choice from the Dutch manager was the inclusion of 17-year-old defender RoShaun Williams. The youngster was promoted to the United first team at the weekend during the 1-1 FA Cup quarter-final draw with West Ham United but he didn’t manage to get on to the pitch.
A victory at any cost is a must for United this evening if they want to continue in the Europa League. With a top four finish seemingly out of the question winning the Europa League is United’s best chance of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.
