Sergio Romero 6 - Comfortable evening for David de Gea's stand-in. Had nothing to do apart from deal with a goalmouth scramble in the second half.
Guillermo Varela 7 - Started the evening by slipping over when attempting to make a clearance - to the amusement of the home supporters - but the full-back had the last laugh. Did little wrong in defence and showed a willingness to get forward.
Chris Smalling 8 - Fortunate to escape without injury when sliding into the advertising hoardings during the early stages. Did everything that was asked of him to keep Shrewsbury's attackers quiet and put his team on the road to victory with a cool finish just before the break.
Danny Blind 7 - Routine evening for the Netherlands international. He was never required to extend himself, even when Shrewsbury started to threaten late on.
Cameron Borthwick-Jackson 7 - Another impressing outing for the young left-back. He was playing against weaker opposition than he has been used to in the Premier League, but he looked assured on the ball and a threat down the flank before being replaced at half time.
Morgan Schneiderlin 7 - Probably his easiest 90 minutes of the season. With Shrewsbury dropping deep, was given the space to spray the ball about in front of the back four without any pressure.
Ander Herrera 7 - Allowed all the time in the world on the ball in the middle of the park. Provided an excellent cross from Lingard to slide home the third.
Jesse Lingard 7 - Solid outing for the Englishman, who capped off his display with an excellent finish from Herrera's cross. Suffered a knock during the final quarter but completed the game with minimal fuss.
Juan Mata 8 - Was given the freedom to get forward at will due to Shrewsbury operating with a defensive-minded lineup. Netted with a delightful free kick, but it should have been disallowed with three United players obstructing the goalkeeper's view from an offside position.
Memphis Depay 6 - His general play was fine, but his shooting was abysmal. Began the evening by hitting the top of the stand and ended it with a free kick that flew into the supporters behind the goal. He came close in the first half with a low drive, but that was as good as it got.
Anthony Martial 6 - Will wonder how he didn't score at the New Meadow. Had a shot cleared off the line in the first half before sending a header wide from inside the six-yard box.

Joe Riley 6 - Given his first-team debut for United and he did everything that was asked of him. This was the perfect game to gain 45 minutes in the senior side
