Van Gaal Reveals How He Upset £275k-A-Wk Man Utd Player

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has revealed that Bastian Schweinsteiger was
unhappy with him after he publicly criticised the experienced midfielder in December.
Van Gaal claimed that Schweinsteiger had been taken off during the fateful Champions League game against Wolfsburg as he wasn’t playing well enough.
The 31-year-old has been absent recently through injury and Van Gaal, who also coached Schweinsteiger during a spell in charge of Bayern Munich, claimed he was only critical as he knows the midfielder’s true potential.

Van Gaal said, as reported by the Daily Star: “However, during December I said that I expect more and he was very disappointed I said that.
“But I think I can say that because my expectation [of him] is higher.”

Schweinsteiger was heralded as one of the signings of the summer due to his vast experience and as he has won almost every title there is to win with Bayern and Germany.
He signed for United last summer on a contract worth a reported £275,000-per-week (via the Daily Star), marking his first club venture outside of his homeland.
However, he has largely struggled to live up to the billing during his opening six months at the club and was regularly rotated with Michael Carrick and Morgan Schneiderlin, prior to his injury.

The Germany captain has scored just one goal and failed to register an assist in 17 Premier League appearances so far, although he has a reasonable pass accuracy of 86% and an 81% take-on success rate.
United are currently without nine first-team players due to injury and Van Gaal will be hoping that Schweinsteiger can recover from his knee problem soon as they have struggled in recent weeks, winning just 3/13 league matches.
