Manchester United have reportedly edged closer to landing Wolfsburg and Switzerland defender Ricardo Rodriguez, as Louis van Gaal looks to strengthen his squad this month.
According to the Express, german publication Bild have claimed that a £30million move from the Old Trafford club is being readied.
The Red Devils could do with additional cover at the back, and see Rodriguez as a strong option. At 23, he would be a long-term solution, but there is likely to be competition from Real Madrid.
Van Gaal is also expected to sign a striker this month, with his current squad struggling badly for goals in recent weeks, so their could be questions marks over whether spending such a large fee on a defender would be the smartest investment.
But the manager is known to have a huge budget and is likely to be able to afford two big money signings in order to push for a Champions League spot.
