Louis Van Gaal on Ryan Giggs to Swansea: I’ll Speak to Him if True

Louis van Gaal doesn’t seem convinced that Swansea want to make Manchester United assistant manager
Ryan Giggs their next boss.
Mark Ogden of The Independent yesterday reported that the Welsh club want to replaced the sacked Gary Monk with the Old Trafford legend.
That would be a surprise move considering Giggs is regularly mentioned as the natural successor to van Gaal when the Dutchman leaves the club at the end of his contract in 2017.
Van Gaal was inevitably asked about the prospect of losing his assistant to Swansea during his press conference ahead of the weekend Premier League clash with Bournemouth.
But if there has been contact for Giggs then LVG doesn’t know about it – saying he’d speak to the coach if Swansea did come in for him.
Until then, it’s all just paper talk for van Gaal.
Speaking at his press conference, van Gaal said, via mirror.co.uk: “First I have to speak to Ryan Giggs by himself if it’s true.
“And [in that case], he’s coming to me. I never read papers and I think that it’s the truth. I’m sorry.”
That’s that then. Until van Gaal finds out about it, Giggs is going nowhere.
In the meantime, both men will need to concentrate on tomorrow’s evening league trip to Bournemouth – a game where they will be without eight first team stars after Chris Smalling and Matteo Darmian were both confirmed as the latest injury absentees.
