It was a good night for Iker Casillas in the Champions League last night…
The past few years haven’t been the greatest for Iker Casillas. Having been regarded as one of the best
goalkeepers in the world while simultaneously captaining both Spain and Real Madrid, the Spanish stopper was literally on top of the world.
However, under Mourinho he fell out of the Madrid first team and eventually, he also lost his place as the Spanish number one. Last summer he finally left the Santiago Bernabeu and headed to last season’s runners up in the Portuguese league, Porto.
Since joining his new club, Casillas has generally been impressive and last night, he finally broke a record which had evaded him for some time. Toppling Israeli minnows Maccabi Tel Aviv with a run of the mill 2-0 result, the clean-sheet went down as Casillas’s 51st in the Champions League.
Porto now top their group with 7 points while Chelsea sit in third behind Dynamo Kiev in second. Check out the Opta Infographic on Casillas’s achievement below.
